PRAMBANAN SIGNIFICANCE
Prambanan Temple, also known as Candi Prambanan, is a magnificent Hindu temple complex located in Central Java, Indonesia. It is renowned for its historical and architectural significance. Built in the 9th century during the Mataram Kingdom, which was a powerful Hindu kingdom in Java, dedicated to the Hindu trinity of deities called Trimurti.
Prambanan’s architectural style is characterized by tall and slender towers with intricate stone carvings built in the traditional Javanese architecture style known as “candi.” The main Shiva temple, in particular, stands at 47 meters (154 feet) tall, making it the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. In 1991, Prambanan Temple was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its cultural and historical significance. It is considered one of the most important Hindu temples in Southeast Asia.
