Hhhhi InterhashersOnly two months to go before the big one! It’s time to give you our March update, and this one has all the info from the Goody Bag Magazine that I have just finished writing. It has all the important bits of the event that you need to know about right now. Before I clone that, we will be capping the registrations at 3,000, and we are nearly there!
Let’s give you some info about Interhash HQ.
Our InterHash 2026 Headquarters will be located at Hotel Rich in the heart of Jogjakarta. This will serve as the central hub for the event, including IH26 registration, Goody Bag collection, the InterHash Bazaar, Red Dress Run and Full Moon Run registrations, IH28 bidders’ booths, the InterHash Council desk, Lost and Found, and the bus departure point for the runs.
The hotel is conveniently located about 40 minutes by train from Jogjakarta’s new International Airport, and only 15 minutes by car from Jalan Malioboro and Tugu Train Station. Hotel Rich offers all the facilities one could wish for when hosting an InterHash event. In fact, it also served as the headquarters for our InterHash 2012 event.
Since 2012, the impressive Jogja City Supermall has been built directly next to the hotel. Guests now enjoy direct access from the hotel into the mall, allowing you to walk straight into a cinema, supermarket, and dozens of restaurants without even stepping outside.
The hotel itself features two bars and two restaurants, serving both local Indonesian cuisine, and international dishes.
InterHash registration will take place in the hotel’s large ballroom. Once hashers have completed registration and collected their Goody Bags, they can head to the hotel’s Beer Garden, where ice-cold beers and snacks will be available for sale.
The hotel also offers two outdoor swimming pools, including the popular “Sky Pool” on the 9th floor, which provides spectacular views across the Jogyakarta skyline and, on clear days, the majestic Mount Merapi.
For those looking to pick up official InterHash merchandise, the InterHash Bazaar will be located in the large basement area, adjacent to the bus departure point for the runs. This area will also host the IH28 bidders’ booths, as well as Red Dress Run and Full Moon Run registrations, Interhash Council (IC) desk, Lost and Found desk, and Down Down Competition registration.
The bus departure point itself is a large, secure area within the hotel grounds. Small stalls will be available here selling snacks and beverages for hashers before they head out on the runs.
On the second floor, the hotel features The Beer Garden, which comfortably accommodates 200 to 300 hashers. This lively space offers restaurant service, a relaxed atmosphere, and access to the swimming pool.
For those who prefer a quieter setting, the hotel also offers a Lobby Bar, providing another comfortable place for hashers to meet, relax, and socialize.
Jogjakarta is a relatively small city, so travelling around town should not be too expensive. The Tourism Authority has maps in English that can be obtained from its offices next to Hotel Mutiara on Jalan Malioboro, at the airport and the train station.
Jogjakarta's taxis are metered, and nowadays most taxi drivers are trustworthy. Flag fall is Rp.5,500 and most trips around the center of town should not cost more than Rp.15,000. After dark, the minimum fare for a taxi is Rp.10,000, even if the meter reads less that Rp.10,000. If by chance you find a taxi driver that you feel comfortable with and trustworthy, ask for his cellular phone number so that next time you need to travel you can call him directly to his cell phone and arrange your travel needs. Most taxi drivers will be more than happy to do this. You can also get a taxi by calling the taxi company's office. But, sometimes there are one or more taxi units on standby outside some of the larger hotels.
The traditional three-wheeled and pedal-powered cart is known as the becak (pronounced beh-chak), which can be found in most parts of Jogjakarta. Haggle furiously before getting into the becak. A ride from within the city to the Malioboro shopping precinct should not cost more than Rp 20,000.
Traditional horse-pulled carts, known as andong , or dokar , wait for tourists outside hotspots like the train station, the Kraton, and Mall Malioboro. Haggle furiously. The cost for one round trip for andong is Rp.20,000. Usually they ask for Rp.30,000, but they may settle for less. Andong can accommodate up to 5 adult passengers.
Medium and small size buses are the main public transport in Jogjakarta. There are two kinds of bus: Regular and Patas. Patas buses, known as “TransJogja” operate from 6am to 10pm, and stop only at designated shelters. Unlike regular buses, “TransJogja” is air-conditioned, and generally safer. Tickets can be purchased directly at the shelters, and the cost for single trip is Rp.3,000. Passengers may purchase regular trip cards which cuts the per trip cost to Rp.2,700, and allows transit to other shelters. There are six routes, and route maps can be downloaded.Regular buses normally operate from 6am to 5pm, and some long routes extend their operation until 9pm. The cost for single trip is Rp.2,500, regardless of distance (within the city). Usually on a bus there will be one driver, and one helper, who will hang from the side of the bus, handle the money, and try to get passengers to ride the bus. The helper will usually tap you on the shoulder to indicate you should pay him. If there is no helper, you can pay the driver directly. When you are ready to get off a bus, tell the driver, or helper "Kiri," which means left, or “Stop Please”.
There are several car and motorbike rental agencies just outside Tugu Station. A near new semi-automatic ( clutchless ) motorbike can be rented for Rp.50,000 per 24 hrs; Older bikes may come for less, and fully automatic bikes such as a Honda Vario, or Yamaha Mio, may sometimes cost Rp.5,000-10,000 more. Cars can be had rented for around Rp.300,000 for 24 hr, or Rp.200,000 for 12 hrs. A driver can be hired along with the car for another Rp.50,000 to Rp.200,000/day. Prices may vary due to fuel inclusion for a set distance or itinerary. Prices are always subject to negotiation, and may increase or decrease due to local demand, type, and age of vehicle, and your individual requirements at the time. If renting please ensure you are familiar with both the applicable licensing requirements, and vehicle use in the prevailing conditions. An International driving license will suffice.
As usual, King Kong, our IH26 Chairman, always prides himself with a high standard for his Interhash Goody Bag. This event he is spoiling you once more, with not one but two Backpacks, one doubling up as a very handy small ‘carry-on’ size soft suitcase. In the bag you have two polo shirts, with one breast pocket for cigarettes, glasses, money or whatever. There are no sponsor logos on the shirts. You also get one IH26 doll (a blow up one it looks like!!). Moving along swiftly, we have a wonderful fridge magnet, one tumbler for your favorite tipple, one sarong to hide your knees when entering a temple, and this magazine, lovingly prepared for you by yours truly Discowanker. It’s a cracking Goody Bag, thank you King Kong!
As trail masters, we would like to show you the unique flora, fauna and beauty of our country, and during the run meet some of our friendly locals. We believe we have created runs that will give hashers an exceptional experience, and an everlasting memory. Hopefully our diverse run sites that we have organized will satisfy each and every hasher.Hashers will run in the pure fresh mountain air, around vegetable farms owned by locals, natural waterfalls, plus picturesque forests, valleys, and mountains.
We believe with the combination of local hares, and some of the best Circle RA’s from around the World, we will offer you not only exceptional runs, but fun filled circles.
We hope you enjoy the run sites we have chosen. We have high hopes that after the IH26 event hashers will have long and lasting memories.
Bring a change of clothing and shoes to the runs, as there will be changing and shower facilities provided for you. You may also consider Sunscreen, Mosquito Spray, your Interhash towel, your Camera and your stamina!
Similar to previous Interhash Red Dress Runs, this event will also donate its entire proceeds to help build a school for disabled children in the Magelang area. We are hoping that this will help those children to receive a better education, and provide them with a suitable location to develop their talents. The school will feature a plaque ‘Proudly built by Hashers around the world – Prambanan Mendut Interhash 2026’.
During the Prambanan 2026 Interhash, the Down Down Competition will be conducted in its appropriate place on the main stage on Saturday night, hopefully with both defending Champions from the previous Interhash in attendance.
The Harriettes one liter pewter mug is still ‘missing’ (whoever nicked it, please bring it back, we forgive you!). We have the Men’s two liter pewter mug, which has been restored to its former glory, its dents removed, and given a good polishing. New Down Down trophies have been made, are carry friendly, and look cool.
Mmmm? normally rules and Interhash don’t mix, but in the very serious business of Interhash Down Downs, there is one basic rule. Drink as much as you can, as fast as you can, and avoid the dreaded spillage! As in each Interhash, a trusty stopwatch will be used, and the whole event will be monitored and judged by our dedicated New Zealand Team, in addition to Interhash luminaries Froggy, Chesty and Mr. Magoo.
The Down Down Competition is open to all Male and Female Hashers. You can register at the Rich Hotel Registration area. If you want to pre-register for this event then email us.
May the best Hashers win. Drink it Down Down Down!
We only have the one so far, the always entertaining Hamersley HHH (come on you Perth Harriettes), so we are looking for more acts. Email us.
Orchestras, Bands, Sexy Dancers, we got them all.
There are a load of Hash friendly pubs. They will be listed in the Magazine, but here’s a few for you to look at.
Since bars are a significant cultural feature of every Interhash, IH2026 has identified some great bars for your consideration, located right in the heart of the city of Jogjakarta, and situated on and near the main street of Jalan Malioboro (Malioboro Street). Jogyakarta’s nightlife offers a diverse range of beer-centric spots, from industrial beer gardens and colonial-style bars, to sophisticated rooftop lounges. Jogyakarta's cafe culture is a blend of traditional Javanese charm and modern, artistic spaces. Whether you are looking for a bohemian hangout in the historic tourist districts, or a quiet spot for coffee, the city has a wide variety of options.
We’ve chosen the same street we made the Hash bar street in Interhash 2012, it’s called Jalan Sosrowijayan (Sosrowijayan Street, as “Jalan” means “Street”).
A quick stroll down this street, off the main shopping street of Malioboro, and the first bar you see is strangely called “Oxen Free”. A trendy, warm, and friendly restaurant Café. It’s a restored Dutch colonial building, close to Jogja’s main shopping street, making it a perfect place to watch the hustle and bustle of Malioboro while enjoying a cold beer, and great Javanese and International food. It has an abundance of long tables, making it perfect for Hash groups. ‘Oxen Free’ is a large spacey Café Bar which can comfortably seat 500 to 700 Hashers, both inside and out. They feature the largest outdoor sitting space in the area, offering a spacious central meeting point for Hashers. Known for its energetic atmosphere with live music acts, and DJs performing regularly on weekends.
(Jalan Sosrowijayan No.2).
Down the road a little, and a right turn down a well-lit alleyway we have the famous “Bedhot Cafe”, a cozy little restaurant, popular with hashers, tourists, and expats for its cold beer, excellent food, quick and friendly service, unique décor, and great music. “Bedhot Café” is a legendary establishment known for its quintessential "Jogja Bohemian" atmosphere. It features eclectic, colorful décor, with a strong artistic and vintage vibe, that has made it a favorite for decades. The Café offers a mix of local Indonesian dishes, and Western travelers' favorites at very affordable prices.
(Gang. 2 GT1 No.58, Sosromenduran).
At the far end of this street is “Lucifer’. “Lucifer” is a staple of the Jogjakarta nightlife scene, particularly popular among tourists, due to its proximity to the main shopping district. It provides a wide selection of drinks, and is often cited by visitors for its lively, high-energy rock music entertainment. The bar frequently hosts live bands, creating a vibrant environment for socializing. It is recognized as a convenient hotspot for a cold beer after a day of exploring Malioboro.
(Jalan Sosrowijayan No.71, Sosromenduran).
Directly across the road from “Lucifer” is the “Reggae Rock Café” which offers a unique blend of genres as the name suggests, often hosting bands that mix classic reggae with other rhythmic styles. The atmosphere is laid-back and colorful, reflecting its fusion of rock and reggae culture. It's a great place to catch local bands in a more relaxed, open-air setting.
(Jalan Prawirotaman No.32, Brontokusuman, Mergangsan).
Walk five minute, over one block, to the “Ibis Styles Hotel”, where you will find the “Sky Bar”. A premier rooftop destination providing panoramic views of the city skyline. A great spot for watching the sunset, while enjoying a cold beer, or a refreshing cocktail. The setting is described as elegant, yet accessible. It’s perfect for a romantic evening, or a quiet drink. While it has a strong focus on views, reviewers also appreciate the variety of local and international beverages.
(Jalan Dagen / Jl. Jogonegaran No.109, Sosromenduran).
Wandering a little further afield, here are a few more notable Bars and Restaurants worth your visit. The “TapHouse Beer Garden” is a popular destination known for its unique setting in what appears to be an abandoned house, creating a hip, industrial atmosphere. It features an extensive selection of imported beers, including brands like Hoegaarden, Leffe, and Erdinger. The space is designed with two distinct beer gardens and greenery-covered walls for a relaxed feel. Visitors can enjoy outdoor seating with bean bags, making it a favorite for young crowds and beer enthusiasts.
(Jalan Jlagran No.18, Pringgokusuman, Gedong Tengen).
The “Barley and Barrel” combines elegance with a casual vibe, making it an ideal spot for an after-work drink, or a social gathering. Visitors highlight the high-quality selection of beer, and signature snacks available. The interior design is modern and chic, providing a comfortable space for conversation. It is located on the ground floor of the Artotel Suites Bianti,
(Jalan Urip Sumoharjo No.37, Klitren, Gondokusumanmaking) making it easily accessible for city center visitors.
The “Asmara Art & Coffee Shop” is another legendary venue in the Prawirotaman area, that has a long history of hosting rock, blues, and acoustic performances. Known for its artistic vibe and intimate stage setup. It’s a favorite for local musicians, and travelers, looking for a more "underground" music experience. Generally features live music most nights, except Sundays.
(Jalan Tirtodipuran No.22, Mantrijeron)
“Gadjah Wong” is one of Jogjakarta’s most famous eateries, Gadjah Wong is an excellent indoor and outdoor restaurant, where guests can sit in one of three differently themed areas, Javanese, traditional, and colonial, with corresponding music: there’s Gamelan in the Javanese zone, and Jazz in the colonial one. The menu features Chinese and European dishes, as well as Indonesian specialties.
(Jalan Affandi No.79D, Soropadan, Condongcatur, Depok, Sleman)
If you don’t feel like leaving the Rich Hotel, they have a beer garden on the second floor of the Hotel, ‘The Beer Garden’ will comfortably hold around 200 Hashers under a starry sky, and offers hashers a restaurant service and swimming pool.
See you in Jogjakarta for an icy cold Beer!

If you want to flack any hab, bring it. Please pass this invite on to your Harriette friends around the world. The more, the merrier. Right now they are estimating 50 – 200 Harriettes from previous Huddles at World Interhash Queenstown, Eurohashes in Tallinn, Baarlo, Prague, Scotland, InterAmericas Phoenix 2017, and New Orleans 2025, plus two Huddles in Antarctica. Any questions, contact the organizers Bronco Buster, and friends.
For this Interhash 2026, the IH26 Committee has happily accepted the offer of assistance from the Interhash Council (IC), who will implement and oversee the voting process of IH26, to decide which IH28 bidding team will be the outright winner of the IH26 Election. We thank them for their assistance and support.
We wish you all Good Luck with your bids!
As soon as you arrive in Indonesia you are a Millionaire, such is the Indonesian Monetary system. The Indonesian currency is the Rupiah. The currency has denominations of 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000. At the time of writing, the Indonesian Rupiah is Rp.16,900 to the US Dollar So calculations at present are Rp.10,000 = US$ 60 cents, Rp.50,000 = US$ 2.90, Rp.100,000 = US$ 5.90, Rp.1,000,000 = US$ 59. Always double check your zeros on the notes when making transactions.
If you find that you have to change money with a street side money changer, the golden rule is to make sure that you are the last one to count the money out in front of them, do not let them count it last! A popular con is them dropping money under the table after they have counted it out in front of you. You can spot this con immediately by being offered lots of lower denominations of notes like Rp.20,000 or Rp.50,000, which gives them a better chance to drop money easier, without you noticing the loss. The banks are the safest places to change money. There are plenty of ATM's around, and also Western Unions, if the need be.
With Shopping, the general rule (if there is such a thing) is to offer half of what they are asking and finish off somewhere in the middle, so that both parties feel they have had a good deal. If Taxis are off meter, agree on the price first before you get in. No tip required when off meter. The locals will never hassle you for tips, just use your discretion. Good friendly service = Good Tip!
In Restaurants, Rp.10,000 to Rp.20,000 will suffice, depending on the type of service you get. For Taxis, Rp.5000 to Rp.10,000, and for Guides a minimum of Rp.50,000.
