"Got questions? We've got answers! Check out our frequently asked questions below."
Yogyakarta has a tropical climate, so be prepared for warm and humid weather
year-round. Here's a packing list to keep you
comfortable:
Lightweight and breathable clothing: Pack
plenty of t-shirts, shorts, skirts, and dresses made from cotton or
linen.
Rain gear: It can rain unexpectedly, so bring a
lightweight raincoat or umbrella.
Sun protection: Don't
forget sunscreen with a high SPF, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from
the strong sun.
Travel adapter: Indonesia uses 220V
electricity and typically has two-pin round sockets (type C/F).
Yogyakarta is served by Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA), which is located about 40 km (25 miles) southwest of the city center. Here are the most common ways to get to Yogyakarta from the airport:
1. Train:
The most convenient and
efficient option: The airport train connects YIA directly to
Yogyakarta's main train station (Tugu Station) in the city
center.
Travel time: Approximately 39
minutes.
Cost: Affordable, with tickets starting from around
Rp20,000 (around $1.30 USD).
Frequency: Trains depart
hourly.
Where to find the train: The train station is
located outside the terminal building. Take the escalator one level up from the
arrivals hall and walk for about 5 minutes.
Tickets: You can
buy tickets at vending machines at the airport, online through the Railink
website, or via the Railink or KA Bandara app.
2.
Bus:
Affordable option: Several bus companies
(Damri, SatelQu, etc.) operate buses from the airport to various points in
Yogyakarta.
Travel time: Around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on
traffic and your destination.
Cost: Varies depending on the
bus company and destination, but generally starts from around Rp70,000 ($4.50
USD).
Where to find the buses: Airport buses are usually
found in the area around the airport.
Destinations: Buses go
to several locations in Yogyakarta, including Jombor Bus Terminal, Giwangan Bus
Terminal, and some hotels.
3. Taxi:
Convenient
but more expensive: Taxis are readily available outside the
arrivals hall.
Travel time: Around 1 hour, depending on
traffic.
Cost: Expect to pay around Rp210,000 - Rp250,000
($14-$16 USD) or more.
Ride-hailing apps: You can also use
ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek.
4. Private
Transfer:
Pre-booked service: You can arrange a
private transfer in advance through your hotel or a travel
agency.
Convenient and hassle-free: Your driver will meet
you at the airport and take you directly to your
destination.
Cost: Higher than other options, but offers
more comfort and convenience.
Indonesia offers various visa options for visitors, depending on
your nationality and purpose of visit. Here's a general overview:
1. Visa-Free
Entry:
For tourism: Citizens of many countries (including
most ASEAN countries, Australia, the USA, Canada, and many European
countries) can enter Indonesia visa-free for 30 days for tourism
purposes.
Important
notes:
Your
passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
You must have a
return or onward ticket.
You may be asked to show proof of sufficient
funds to cover your stay.
Visa-free entry cannot be
extended.
2.
Visa on Arrival (VOA):
For tourism and other short-term
visits: Citizens of many other countries
(check the official list) can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at certain
airports and seaports in Indonesia.
Validity: The VOA is valid
for 30
days and can
be extended once for another 30 days at an immigration office.
Cost: IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 35).
Requirements:
Passport valid for at least 6 months.
Return or onward
ticket.
Proof of
sufficient funds.
3. Electronic Visa on Arrival
(e-VOA):
For convenience: You can apply for an e-VOA online
before your trip, which allows you to skip the VOA queue at the airport.
Available
at: Soekarno-Hatta International Airport
in Jakarta and Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
Validity and
requirements: Same as the regular
VOA.
4. Visit
Visa:
For longer stays or other
purposes: If
you need to stay longer than 30 days, or if your purpose of visit is not
covered by the visa-free entry or VOA (e.g., business, social visit), you'll
need to apply for a Visit Visa at an Indonesian embassy or consulate in your
home country.
Validity: Up to 60 days, and can be extended
multiple times.
Requirements:
Passport valid for at least 6 months.
Sponsor letter (if
required).
Return or onward
ticket.
Proof of sufficient
funds.
Other documents may
be required depending on your purpose of
visit.
Important
Notes:
Always check the latest
regulations: Visa requirements can change, so it's
crucial to check the latest information on the official website of the
Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration or your nearest Indonesian
embassy or consulate before your trip.
Ensure your passport is
valid: Make
sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining from your
planned date of entry into Indonesia.
Be prepared for
immigration: Have all necessary documents ready
when you arrive in Indonesia, including your passport, visa (if applicable),
return or onward ticket, and proof of
accommodation.
